MUSIC IS READY

Hello! Hope you are having a GREAT summer!

Jr Strings AND HAYO music is READY.  However, you need to have paid your registration fees in order to pick up your folder!  There are a few ways to take care of this, please read carefully!

  1. Register and pay online REGISTRATION FORM  When you do this, it will take 24hrs for me to process the request and get your folder out for pick up.  Or you can email me directly and I can confirm with you so you don’t waste a trip.
  2. Register online and pay via phone or in person REGISTRATION FORM  When you do this, you can pick up your folder when you pay in person.  The office hours for summer vary, please call 616-796-6780 before making a trip in.  In general, the hrs are 10am-5, Monday – Thursday.  PLEASE CALL FIRST
  3. You can email me directly or call me for any alternative registrations requests, lkgarza@gmail.com or 616-990-0937

The office is in the Midtown Center, suite 201

Folders are in marked boxes outside of the office.  PAID folders can be found with your name on it in the appropriate box.  Un-paid folders are in the office.  Midtown Center building hours are M-F, 9am-5.  If you need evening hours, please contact me.

SET UP CREW – I have at least 1, maybe 2 openings for set up crew.  Free tuition is given in exchange for the work required for these jobs.  Set up crew arrives early to set up both HAYO and JR strings rehearsal rooms, and also stays after to put all chairs and stands away.  In addition, the set up crew helps at the dress rehearsal and concert.  Student must be able to arrive by 5:30 EVERY Monday rehearsal, this is not an option.  Please contact me to apply for one of these positions.  It is first come, first serve.

AUDITIONS for NEW HAYO members will be in September.  Please watch for details and have any interested friends contact me,  we have openings in ALL sections.  Please share this information with your private teachers and school music directors.  Current Jr Strings members are not able to audition in September.

Fiddle Camp, June 19-24

We are excited to host the first fiddle camp!  This is a great opportunity for students to try something new, learn new skills, make new friends and start the summer off right here in HOLLAND!!

Kyle Nester and Nate Roberts will lead the camp, which will be held at Midtown Center.  This is open to intermediate/advanced students of violin, advanced viola, cello and bass.  All levels of guitar, mandolin and banjo.

9:30am-12pm, June 19-24. $100 registration fee

HAYO Auditions, April 22 2017

Hello

Current members of HSYO, it is very important you register for next season before we hold our auditions on April 22.  This is so that we know what openings we have in our programs.  You do not have to pay at this time, you can submit an online application without payment HERE (click the blue word)

If you are planning to audition for HAYO, HAYO honors quartet or HAYO first violin, please call to schedule your audition.  Check the SPRING AUDITION INFO tab for more details.

Our registration fee for next season is $145 for both Jr Strings and HAYO.  Jr Strings members can pay by the semester at the fee of $75/semester.  NEW policy: family discount for ALL HSO sponsored programs.  First child full charge, 2nd receives a 10% discount, 3rd a 20% discount, etc.

Some important dates to consider:

  • September 11, 2017 FIRST REHEARSAL
  • November 11 and 12, 2017 DRESS REHEARSAL AND FALL CONCERT
  • March 17 and 18, 2018 DRESS REHEARSAL and SPRING CONCERT
  • March 24 and 25 SIDE BY SIDE rehearsal and CONCERT with Holland Symphony and HAYO

We have updated our registration policy as follows:

  • Refund/Cancellation Policy:
    • Registration and Payment deadline is 30 days prior to the start of the program (August 12, 2017). After deadline, late registrations are permitted only as space allows.
    • All refunds are subject to a $20 cancellation/processing fee.
    • Refunds will be given if requested at least 14 days before the first day of the program.
    • If you cancel less than 14 days before the first rehearsal of the season, refunds will be given only for medical reasons or a family emergency.
    • If HSO/HSYO must cancel the program, 100% refund will be given to all participants.

Season wrap up

To the members of HAYO: I must congratulate all of you for a wonderful, outstanding concert last sunday! With all the changes we have gone through, you as an orchestra made it all work. I thank you most sincerely. Your attentiveness during the concert and the rehearsals is to be commended. And I thank you for doing so much quick adjusting (we could hear each other) with one short dress rehearsal and a warm up. We have had a good year!. I think for those of you coming back, and I hope all of you do, the new, renovated space is so promising. Once again, congratulations to all. Enjoy your break. Mr. Piippo

Thank you for a great season!  It was full of great music, hard work and lots of fun.  I so appreciate the support from you as parents and the time each member dedicates to their instrument.  It is an investment that is a huge benefit to each individual as well as our community.

Even though the season is over, there is still so much going on!! I hope you take a minute to check in and make note of what catches your interest!  As a member of HSYO, PLEASE share our program information with other interested musicians!! YOUR recommendation means more than you know!

February 27 is the last Monday rehearsal for the spring semester!

There will be a pizza party at the break.  Snack is not needed.  Please bring your own water to drink as drinks are not served.

HAYO

  • 6p-8p FULL rehearsal, harp at 6:45

Saturday Mar 4 is our DRESS REHEARSAL.  You do not need to wear concert clothes.  There is a HOT breakfast served for all HSYO members, please see the SPRING CONCERT INFO tab.

Sunday, March 5 is our SPRING CONCERT!!!  Please wear your concert clothes: white top, black bottom, black socks/tights, black shoes.  Dressy is best.  Please no t-shirts and jeans/leggings.  Please see the SPRING CONCERT INFO tab.

Tickets are available at the symphony office, 616=796-6780.  They will also be sold during the breakfast on Saturday from 9:45-10:45.  $8 adults and seniors/ $5 students, 6yr-college.

Please use the SPRING CONCERT POSTER to invite friends, family and teachers!  All school music teachers and private teachers get a FREE ticket.  They just need to go to the ticket booth and let them know they are a teacher!

Practice A Thon RESULTS!

I announced the results of the Practice A Thon, but thought I would post them here as well.  If you earned ANY prizes, they will be passed out at the next rehearsal.  Thank you to EVERYONE who participated, every donation counts!

Practice A Thon and Pizza Night

Hello!  A quick update on tonight’s schedule:
